Warning Signs of Cooling System Failure that We Can Fix at Our Birmingham, AL Auto Shop

Warning Signs of Cooling System Failure that We Can Fix at Our Birmingham, AL Auto ShopCooling systems are made up of several components, such as the radiator, thermostat, water pump, cooling fan, pressure cap, and hoses. If any aspect of your cooling system fails, then your engine could become at great risk of serious damage from overheating. This makes it important to get to the shop at the first sign of cooling system failure. At HESCO Automotive & Performance Center, our local mechanics have extensive experience with identifying and fixing cooling system problems.

Indications of a Cooling System Problem

Cooling system leaks are commonly the cause of overheating. One possible sign of a coolant leak is that your coolant warning light has flashed on. Also, if you check your coolant and it has gotten really low for seemingly no good reason, then it could be leaking. A symptom of an internal coolant leak is that there's a lot of white smoke coming from your exhaust. This could mean that you have a blown head gasket. A sign of an external coolant leak is that there's bright green fluid on the ground where your vehicle has been parked. It's also possible that your coolant is a different color, such as pink or yellow. A coolant leak can cause a drop in fluid pressure. This can then reduce the coolant's boiling point. Consequently, you may see white steam emerging from under your hood.

Another sign of cooling system trouble is that your temperature gauge has risen into the red. If this happens, you'll want to pull into a parking lot as soon as you safely can. Then you can call up the shop and explain anything of concern that you're noticing. Then you can get expert advice on whether it seems okay to drive your car any further, or whether it'll be best to get towed to the shop.
