Quick Tips for Boosting Gas Mileage

It's widely expected that gas prices will continue to soar for at least the remainder of the year. To lessen your financial pain at the pump, it's worth taking a few gas-saving measures, some of which you can do as part of your daily commute, while others can be done quickly at the shop. At HESCO Automotive & Performance Center, our local mechanics can complete maintenance tasks that will help your vehicle get more miles per gallon, keeping more money in your pocket.

Simple Ways to Improve Fuel-Efficiency

As you go about your daily driving routine, there are some easy fuel-saving measures you can take. One simple way to get the best gas mileage is to remove unneeded weight from your car. As little as 100 pounds of unnecessary weight could cause your fuel-efficiency to worsen. When you fill up your tank, you'll want to be sure that you return your gas cap to a tightly secured position. This will prevent fuel from evaporating before it makes its way to the engine. Also, you should be sure that you're driving with proper tire pressure. Generally, tire pressure should be at a point between 30 and 35 psi, but you can check your particular pressure specification and then inflate your tires as required. With underinflated tires, your engine will have to use more power to get the soft rubber to roll down the road, which can cause a drop in MPGs.

At our nearby auto shop, we can conduct auto maintenance that will help your car attain optimal fuel-efficiency. It's best to replace air filters at around 13,000 miles. This way, the right amount of air will be able to reach the combustion chamber, which will prevent the engine from burning extra fuel to compensate for a deficiency of air. Fuel filters should be replaced somewhere between 20,000 and 30,000 miles so that contaminants don't hurt gas mileage and engine performance. At our shop, we can also complete other basic maintenance tasks that will help your car get the most MPGs, such as oil changes and spark plug replacement.
